Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Justus attended St. Pius V Catholic School from first to sixth grade, public school from seventh to ninth grade, and Stanton College Preparatory School from tenth to twelfth grade.
Justus graduated and was accepted into Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he studied Mathematics, Physics, and Music. After graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics, he attended Georgia State University and gained his teaching certification.
Moving back to Florida, Justus worked as a math instructor for Lake Howell High School in Seminole County for seven years. While there, he initiated the successful Applied Math Program (an amalgamation of math and real-world application through physics experiments), assisted in the development of standardized testing for the State of Florida and created a new pep rally song.
While teaching at Lake Howell High School, Justus earned his Master's degree in Pure Mathematics from the University of Central Florida with his thesis in The Application of Numerical Methods to Systems of
Differential Equations. Justus' work is published at U.C.F. as apart of the library reference material, 1997.
In the fall of 1997, Justus became a professor of mathematics at Valencia Community College of Orlando. He is currently the subject-chair for pre-calculus.
Justus has adopted the name Sensei Justus. Sensei is interpreted as teacher in Japanese. It is frequently used in the martial arts to address one’s teacher. The literal meaning of Sensei is “one who has walked before”.
This is a fitting title and association since the disciplines need for mastery with martial arts parallels the disciplines needed for mastery with mathematics.
Sensei Justus has walked in the path that his students now follow. He has struggled with math concepts, weak backgrounds, poor study habits, undetected dyslexia, and significant
stuttering since childhood.
The Sensei Math System is a derivative of tools Sensei Justus created to overcome each of his challenges. FMI is his way of sharing the wealth of knowledge that came from a broken path mended with discipline, courage, and hope.
Call 1-877-628-4364 and ask for Sensei Justus. He looks forward to sharing his story with you and others as a motivational speaker.
