Justus has adopted the name Sensei Frazier. Sensei is interpreted as teacher in Japanese. It is frequently used in the martial arts to address one’s teacher. The literal meaning of Sensei is “one who has walked before”.

This is a fitting title and association since the disciplines needed for mastery in martial arts parallels the disciplines needed for mastery in mathematics.

Sensei Frazier has walked in the path that his students now follow. He has struggled with math concepts, weak backgrounds, poor study habits, undetected dyslexia, and significant stuttering since childhood.

The Sensei Math System is a derivative of tools Sensei Frazier created to overcome each of his challenges. FMI is his way of sharing the wealth of knowledge that came from a broken path mended with discipline, courage, and hope.

 Our Approach to Math

Math models the arts and not so much the sciences. Math follows the same path to mastery as many other disciplines such as martial arts, theatrical and musical performances where rehearsals are designed to master each component of a greater whole and synthesize the parts into one fluid presentation. Martial arts is a demonstration of the degree of mastery of ancient routines. Since the final rehearsals of a routine will most reflect the presentation of a routine, a good sensei will attempt to best re-create the environment for training purposes. In kind, the math instructor should attempt to re-create the student’s testing environment for final training purposes.
