We will add FAQ topics as they arrive.

1. What is a “Skype” account?

Skype is a free service that allows communication between two or more people with Skype accounts. You can communicate in a mix of three ways: instant messaging (IM), voice to voice using a microphone, or face to face using a webcam.

2. How do I create a “Skype” account?

First go to www.skype.com. Next, download the Skype program onto your computer. Once downloaded, you will be prompted to register for a Skype account. Make sure to remember your Skype name for connection purposes with FMI.

3. Which type of web camera should I buy?

Web cameras range from simple plug and play USB to programable firewire-driven. Since our Senseis do not need to see great detail from our student’s video image, the least expensive and simplest webcam with a USB 2.0 connector is sufficient: about $19.95 on sale.

4. Do I need a web camera?

Since today’s web cameras include microphones, having a web camera gives the student an easy way to ask and answer the Sensei.

A Sensei can communicate verbally over the phone while demonstrating problems live over the computer using Skype so a web camera is not necessary but very helpful.

5. How ‘safe’ is making payments through Pay Pal?

Pay Pal is the most recognized form of payment. It is most preferred by those using Ebay where millions of credit card transactions need to be completed securely every day. Pay Pal is safe, secure, and easy to work with. This is why we at FMI make use of this method for our students.

6. How do I choose a Sensei to help with the math?

There is no general application to become an FMI Sensei. All of our Senseis are experienced and hand selected.  They are selected on the basis of the passion for students, math and technology.
